October 6, 2005. British Columbia, Canada.
For anyone who doesn't know, the BCTF (British Columbia Teachers' Federation) is walking out tomorrow in order to strengthen their strike action. This means that 42, 000 teachers across BC are going to take the risk of being arrested, fined, or otherwise persecuted in order to better school conditions. In other words, there is no school for an undetermined amount of time. We could be back on Tuesday, or in a month. No one knows. The reason for their strike happens to be the fact that we are currently faced with one of the worst governments for school policies that there has been. I completely support the BCTF, in fact, I wish I could go out and picket for them right now! The teachers have tried to negotiate with the government's board, but each time they try to bring up a topic, the answer is "No." You just can't negotiate your way out of a brick wall. The government tried to force the teachers back to work, but this is a violation of even the most basic democratic human rights, which is why the teachers are now breaking the law. For their rights. For the rights of the student.
If you believe in the power of the union, strike action, or even the importance of basic rights and freedoms, repost this in your journal.

My mom has a virus that's closely related to meningitis.(sp) The doctor told her that it's life-threatening if not treated, yet didnt treat it in any way, except by giving her sleeping pills. =/ SMART EH.
